Résumé
Comment la décision de troy, l'american national, et de la banal Gabriella, à l'audition tourne leur monde et leur école à l'envers !
Pendant les vacances de la veille du jour de l'an, lors d'une fête de lycéens, Troy et Gabriella, qui pourtant font parti de deux mondes différents, sans le vouloir vraiment, entamment un concours de karaoke, et découvrent leur passions pour le chant et un intérêt dans l'un et l'autre.
Après des vacances, Troy découvre que Gabriella décident d'auditionner pour la comédie musical du lycée.
Le meilleur ami de Troy, Chad, et la nouvelle amie de Gabriella, Taylor, les découragent d'avancer tout les deux dans leurs plans.
Mais c'est Ryan et sa soeur Sharpay - considérés comme les talents théâtraux les plus supérieurs de l'école- qui essayent vraiment de contrecarrer leurs efforts.
